A dark performance space. Four musicians are placed at black-clothed tables, playing the iPad. One musician is closer to the camera, to the right. She looks into the camera and has a microphone in front of her. Her hair is in a bun on top of the head and the sides are shaved.

Elefantöra’s repertoire includes both commissioned works and their own productions. Over the years, they have premiered works by composers such as Karen Power, Jesper Nordin, Hans Ek and Rosanna Gunnarsson. They have collaborated with several Swedish ensembles and orchestras, including gageego!, Musica Vitae, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and the Västerås Sinfonietta, as well as musicians and conductors such as Malin Broman, Rick Stotijn, Simon Crawford-Phillips and Hans Ek.

The ensemble frequently works through labs, residencies and artistic projects with a variety of partners. They have participated in festivals including Lund Contemporary, the Change Music Festival and Nordic Music Days in Glasgow.

The ensemble works primarily with digital music tools and is part of a growing post-digital genre that explores musical expression through instrumentation, artistic processes and notation. Listening is at the core of their practice: it shapes how the musical space expands or contracts, constantly transformed by Elefantöra’s distinctive sound design.

In spring 2024, Elefantöra took part in a major production at Västerås Concert Hall, where four works by composer Jesper Nordin were performed by the Västerås Sinfonietta under the direction of Simon Crawford-Phillips. The evening combined music and dance in an interdisciplinary encounter, with dancers from WORK creating a unique stage language that amplified the emotional expression of the music.
